Pokerstars has become one of the largest online poker rooms that you will find. This is mainly due to the amazing “in-house” poker professionals they have on board. These include Chris Moneymaker, Vanessa Rousso and Daniel Negreanu to mention but a few. These pros are not simply “faces” for the poker room, they often play at the tables as well.
Pokerstars is probably best known for their multi table tournaments. Here you will be able to play in a variety of tournaments where you can win prizes, cash or seats to one of the offline big tournaments, such as; World Series of Poker, European Poker Tour, World Championship of Online Poker, PokerStar’s Caribbean Adventure or World Cup of Poker.
The sheer number of players they host is amazing. At any given time there will be roughly 120k players online with over 4,5k tournaments running, so you do not have to worry about playing against a pro all the time, there will be more than enough “normal” players to play against.
The games and tournaments will suit any pocket. They have games with blinds which start at $.01/$.02 but also have tables where they are $1,000/$2,000 and tournaments that have a buy in for as little as $1. (Obviously not to mention freerolls). They do encourage you to play at the free tables first if you are new to online poker or to their site, just to get a feel for everything before you invest any money.
Once you have registered and have made your first deposit, you are automatically enrolled in their VIP Club, where you will be able to collect points for your play. You get two different types of points which you collect simultaneously: VIP Player Points (VPPs) and Frequent Player Points (FPPs). Your VPPs measure your VIP level and FPPs can be redeemed for items from their online poker store.
Pokerstars has an immaculate reputation and are widely respected and seen to be as one of the best. They do not offer you as many bonuses and promotions as many of the other online poker rooms do, but you will know that you are playing with some of the best poker players around and if you are lucky enough to play at a table with one of the pros, you will be able to learn so much more about the game than you will from any book or video.
